Craig Vogel to Lead Digital Media Collaborative

Craig M. Vogel has been tapped to lead the University of Cincinnati’s Digital Media Collaborative (DMC). Vogel will assume the role of executive director while maintaining an appointment as associate dean within the College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP).

“I look forward to working with the deans and faculty of UC’s College of Arts & Sciences, College-Conservatory of Music, DAAP, and Langsam Library to continue to develop the Digital Media Collaborative,” says Vogel.

The DMC brings together research, creative scholarship, and professional activity that emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration and explores aspects of digital media production and its role in society.

During its first three years, the DMC expanded course offerings due to undergraduate interest including the development of the Bachelor of Integrative Studies through Arts and Sciences.

Vogel says digital media serves as a foundation for all aspects of our global society.

“The continued goal of the DMC is to help every student create a human-centered approach to the understanding and use of the various tools and methods of digital media. UC students must learn to work in interdisciplinary teams that use digital frameworks to gather, analyze and communicate data into thoughtful solutions to positively grow the global economy while adding to the quality of life at every level of human society.”

The DMC will be a significant contributor to UC’s strategic direction - Next Lives Here. Vogel says throughout the next three years he will continue to structure and expand the undergraduate program and create significant additions at the graduate level.

Vogel is a Fellow, Past President Elect and Chair of the Board of the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA). He is co-author of the book, "Creating Breakthrough Products: Innovation from Product Planning to Program Approval," and one of three authors of the book on innovation and organic growth, "Design of Things to Come." During the last 25 years, Professor Vogel has been a consultant to over 20 companies and advised and managed dozens of research projects and design studios collaborating with industry. Vogel also co-founded the Live Well Collaborative (LWC) which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary.

Vogel was recognized as one of the most-admired professors in architecture and design in the United States by Design Intelligence for 2008 and 2011. In 2015, he was recognized as one of 50 most Notable IDSA Members in the last 50 years.
