Heaton Named Fellow by American Pharmacists Association
Pam Heaton, PhD, is to be recognized with the distinction of fellow at the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) 2018 Awards and Honors Program March 16-19 in Nashville, Tennessee.
The APhA awards and honors program is the most comprehensive recognition program in the profession of pharmacy. Fellows are either members of the APhA Academy of Pharmacy Practice and Management or the APhA Academy of Pharmaceutical Research and Science with a minimum of 10 years professional experience. To become a fellow, members must have demonstrated exemplary professional achievements and service to the profession through activities with APhA and other national, state or local professional organizations.
Heaton is chair and professor of pharmacy practice and administrative sciences at the James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy. She teaches a required pharmacy ethics course in the doctor of pharmacy curriculum. She also trains graduate students in the area of health outcomes. Her current research focus is on the use of secondary databases to evaluate clinical, humanistic and economic outcomes of drug therapy. She has published over 60 manuscripts and given over 100 poster presentations.
In partnership with Kroger Pharmacy, Heaton has developed a two-year MS/residency with an emphasis in community pharmacy. Also, with Kroger Pharmacy, along with the Cincinnati Health Council, Health Bridge and several hospitals, Heaton received a grant from National Association of Chain Drug Stores to determine whether community pharmacists can reduce 30-day readmissions for patients with priority conditions.
She is an associate editor for the Journal of the American Pharmacists Association and led the development of its first community residency issue.

The couple are both graduates of the University of Cincinnati's College of Allied Health Sciences and met the day they graduated.
