Get to Know Harry Powers (He|Him)
Clinical Psych Trainee
Harrison “Harry” Powers, he/him, is a Psychology trainee located at the UC CAPS Calhoun location. He graduated from Transylvania University with a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience and psychology and is currently a third-year student in the University of Cincinnati’s clinical psychology doctoral program.
Harry’s therapeutic approach is general and broad and is focused on a client-centered approach that is informed by Acceptance and Commitment theories. Harry has a strong interest in working with students who are experiencing symptoms of anxiety and depression, body image concerns, relationship concerns, identity exploration and development. Harry approaches therapeutic relationships by putting the student first, and prioritizing students’ goals throughout their journey, but in the therapy space and beyond. He encourages collaboration and the implementation of evidence-based tools and skills that could benefit the students throughout their journey.
When not at work, Harry enjoys spending time with his partner and friends, exploring Cincinnati, trying new restaurants, and traveling. He enjoys reading fiction, rewatching his favorite shows and movies, and listening to his favorite artist, Adele. When he needs time to himself or a reset, he enjoys cleaning his space, cooking a meal, and listening to music (usually Adele).
Something I like about myself: My appreciation for the little things, my love for travelling and experiencing new things, and my ability to connect with people.
Coping skills I recommend to clients that I actually use myself: Positive self-affirmation and mindfulness. If I get too caught up in the everyday hustle and bustle, being able to practice mindfulness allows me to slow things down! Also, practicing being kind to myself through positive self-affirmation, whether it’s first thing in the morning, or after a tough day.
