Get to Know Lauren Gunn, PsyM (She|Her)
Clinical Psych Trainee
Lauren Gunn (she/her) is a Psychology Trainee located at the UC CAPS Calhoun location. She currently attends Wright State University’s School of Professional Psychology where she will obtain her doctoral degree in clinical psychology.
Lauren’s therapeutic approach continues to evolve, but she draws from multiple theoretical orientations to best meet each client’s unique needs. She has a strong interest in supporting students navigating relationship concerns (including friendships), racial trauma, and identity exploration. Lauren hopes to support clients in making meaning of their experiences and develop a deeper understanding of themselves by finding power in their voices and lived experiences.
When not at work or engaged in grad school responsibilities, Lauren is usually at the gym working out, enjoying a new tv show or movie, or trying to master a new recipe. She enjoys a wide range of music but R&B, Pop, and Hip-Hop are her favorite genres. Lauren enjoys music so much that she tries to attend at least two concerts a year.
Something I like about myself: My enjoyment of life, my honesty, and my ability to foster connections.
Coping skills I recommend to clients that I actually use myself: Making my physical health a priority whether that looks like being active, eating healthy foods, or getting quality sleep. When I don’t take the time to take care of my physical health, my mental health suffers as well. I also frequently remind myself to focus on the things that I can control and not worry about those that I cannot. Easier said than done but I find the mental reminder helpful!
If I wasn’t in this line of work, I would be: A personal trainer or nutritionist. I love fitness/eating healthy and encouraging others to move their bodies as well. I believe that when you take care of your physical health, your mental health also benefits.
