Get to Know Zac Tabler, LISW (He|Him)
Zac Tabler, Staff Clinician
Zac Tabler, he/him, is a Staff Clinician located at the UC CAPS Calhoun location. He is a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) licensed to practice in Ohio. Zac graduated from the University of Cincinnati with his Master of Social Work (MSW) degree. Prior to becoming a social worker, Zac earned bachelor’s degrees in International Studies and French Language and Literature from Miami University, as well as a master’s degree in World Literatures and Cultures from the University of Ottawa in Ottawa, Canada. Zac is working on gaining his supervision credential and is also completing EMDR Basic Training.
Zac incorporates elements from various therapeutic modalities in his work with clients. Primarily informed by cognitive-behavioral and humanistic approaches, Zac prioritizes tailoring his work to address each client’s unique needs. He believes in meeting clients where they are and partnering with them to provide support in achieving their goals. He emphasizes addressing a client’s concerns holistically, with special attention to how their identities impact lived experiences. In addition, he recognizes how systemic and environmental elements have influenced a person’s life. Importantly, Zac frames work with clients through cultural humility and a trauma-informed lens. Zac is passionate about working with students exploring identity, navigating trauma, struggling with anxiety and depression, managing life transitions, or experiencing relational/social concerns.
When not at work, Zac can usually be found playing video games (mostly RPGs and narrative games), reading, or crocheting. As a foodie, he is working to expand his cooking/baking skills and is always open to restaurant suggestions. Zac also enjoys traveling and his long-term travel goal is to one day visit Japan.
Coping skills I recommend to clients that I actually use myself: Grounding exercises, mindfulness meditation, square breathing, and physical activity.
A book that has impacted me: The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry for its themes applicable to so many aspects of life.
What I like about Cincinnati: The natural hills and diverse neighborhoods—all with their unique feel and experiences.
