Mental Health Counseling Trainee

Kate Freeman, she/her, is a Counseling Trainee located at the UC CAPS Calhoun location. She is currently enrolled at Xavier University to attain a master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

Kate’s therapeutic approach is general and broad, based on the client’s needs, but she is informed by person-centered and solution-focused theories and has strong interests working with students who are working through anxiety, ADHD, relationship concerns (including friendships!), trauma, exploring identity, gender based violence, and family dynamics. She strives to create a warm, welcoming, and nonjudgmental space for students to explore their experiences. She values meeting each person where they are and tailoring counseling to their individual needs, identities, and goals.

When not at work, Kate enjoys coaching grade school volleyball, cheering on THE Ohio State Buckeyes, spending time with her husband and cat, and baking treats for loved ones in the kitchen.

An app I downloaded for my own mental health: Finch! This app helps keep me accountable with mundane tasks that I often forget!

Something I like about myself: My sense of humor, my taste in music, and being curious!

My favorite thing about working at CAPS: The staff! Everyone at CAPS wants to see students succeed and creates a welcoming environment to everyone who walks in.
