CCM Prep offers spring 2021 performing arts classes for all ages

Register now for CCM Preparatory and Community Engagement’s spring 2021 programs

Arts enthusiasts of all ages and abilities are invited to register now for music, dance and theatre arts programs offered through CCM Preparatory and Community Engagement.

Students and families can register online now for select classes, including private lessons and music theory classes for all ages.

CCM Prep provides enjoyable and accessible arts opportunities within a highly creative environment that educate and inspire the whole student. Courses are taught by CCM Prep and collegiate faculty members and guest artists. Classes are offered online this semester unless otherwise noted.

Classes and lessons start in January and early bird registration ends December 18, so register now!

Gift Certificates

Gift certificates are here just in time for the holiday season! CCM Prep Gift Certificates can be redeemed for Prep classes, private lessons and/or parking passes. Gift certificates are not refundable; however, they are transferable to other CCM Prep student accounts. Learn more.

CCM Prep offers private instruction to students of all ages in multiple subjects, including acting, dance, voice and lessons on a variety of music instruments. The spring semester consists of 15 lessons. Continuing students will be invoiced and receive an email regarding their registration. New students should complete an online inquiry.

CCM Prep offers music theory classes for youth (ages 8 and above) and adults, as well as music theory classes for ensemble musicians. Classes include aural recognition, sight singing, written theory and access to CCM technology labs. A theory test determines proper class placement.

stARTS

  • Ages group: 3-5 (Pre-K)

Students will twirl on their toes, march to the drum and perform with puppets!        Welcome to stARTS, our unique introduction to CCM and the performing arts.            Each week a picture book will come to life as our youngest stars sing, move and explore through creative play, the characters, action and themes of the book. This class is available online or in person.


Primary Ballet & Continuing Primary Ballet

  • Age group: 4-5 (primary), 5-6 (continuing primary)
  • Dates: January 30-April 3, 2021
  • Time: Saturdays, 9:15-10:15 a.m.
  • Tuition: $170

Very young dancers have fun in this creative introductory dance class learning basic ballet movements and terminology. Class activities include movement exploration, creative movement, moving in groups, improvisation and working with props. Primary Ballet invites students into the magical enchantment of classical ballet. It presents ballet as a fun and creative learning experience, but is structured enough so that the student begins to learn ballet technique through body awareness and is able to recall movement from memory. These classes are offered both online and in person.


Group Piano

  • Age group: 5-8
  • Dates: January 16-April 17, 2021
  • Time: Saturdays, 11 a.m.-noon
  • Tuition: $250
  • Instructor: Andrew Millar

This class will introduce curious young musicians to the piano and basic keyboard skills necessary to play the instrument. Additionally, students will be developing musicianship skills of listening, music vocabulary and note reading. We recommend participation in this program for one or two years before individual piano study for students in this age range. All materials will be digitally accessed; no book or music purchases required. A parent or guardian is expected to attend each week with the student. This class is offered online.


Mini Musical Theatre Intensive

  • Age group: 5 (kindergarten)-8
  • Dates: January 30-April 3, 2021
  • Time: Saturdays, 11 a.m.-noon
  • Tuition: $150
  • Instructor: Karie-Lee Sutherland

Provides an engaging and easily accessible introduction to the concepts and skills of Musical Theatre for younger students. Students will explore techniques of voice, acting, and dance, as well as guidelines for audition preparation while working towards a mini-scale version of a musical production. No audition required. The last class will be a sharing day. This class is available online or in person.


Ballet 1 and 2

  • Age group: 6-10
  • Dates: January 30-April 3, 2021
  • Time: Saturdays, 10:30-11 a.m.
  • Tuition: $170

Students learn basic ballet vocabulary and begin working on musicality and phrasing movement. They will develop body awareness and begin to understand the importance of body alignment, technique and turn-out. This class introduces beginning students to the discipline involved in the learning of classical ballet and etiquette in the classroom as well as what they should expect of themselves as a student. These classes are offered both online and in person.


Ballet 3 and 4

  • Age group: 8-12
  • Dates: January 16-April 24, 2021
  • Time: Saturdays, noon-1:30 p.m. (Level 4 pre-pointe add-on: 1:30-2 p.m.)
  • Tuition: $305 (Level 4 pre-pointe add-on: $45)
  • Instructor: Jonnie Lynn Jacobs-Percer

This class approaches more complicated ballet combinations for barre and center work. Additional port de bras, épaulement and the use of body directions are introduced at the barre. It continues the importance of proper ballet technique, alignment body placement, body awareness, musicality and phrasing as well as continued emphases on performance quality and phrasing. Increased flexibility, endurance and body strength are also stressed to allow for the development of higher elevations and leg extensions. These classes are offered both online and in person.


Starling Preparatory String Project

  • Age group: 7-18
  • Dates: January 16-April 24, 2021
  • Tuition: $2,475

The Cincinnati Starling Project is a specialized educational program for talented young string players. Our mission is to pass on the rich tradition of classical music to the next generation of performers and audiences by training exceptional students. In addition to private lessons, students participate in a comprehensive program that includes chamber music and music theory. We will not offer Starling Chamber Orchestra or live chamber music at this time because of the pandemic.


Junior Cincinnati Youth Wind Ensemble

  • Age group: Grades 6-8
  • Dates: January 24-April 26, 2021
  • Time: 5:30-7 p.m.
  • Tuition: $185

An elite chamber music experience (at the appropriate level). Jr. CYWE students get to work with CCM faculty and staff, receive professional performance video recordings to download, follow all safety practices and protocols as used by CCM Ensembles and Conducting including masking when not performing, Plexiglass shields, bell covers, temperature taking, and bringing their own stands, and still get to make music with their friends from across the Cincinnati area! This class is offered in person.


Cincinnati Youth Percussion Ensemble

  • Age group: Grades 6-12
  • Dates: January 24-April 26, 2021
  • Time: 5:30-7:30 p.m.
  • Tuition: $185

An elite chamber music experience (at the appropriate level). Meet the Ukulele

  • Ages: 9-adult
  • Dates: January 26-February 23, 2021; repeats March 2-March 30, 2021
  • Time: Tuesdays, 7-8 p.m.
  • Tuition: $75 per 5-week class
  • Instructor: Amy Dennison

The ukulele is for everyone! Simple to learn and play, its compact size makes it easy to carry with you so you can make music wherever you are! The course includes tuning your ukulele, simple theory as it relates to the instrument, strumming patterns, chord fingerings, and of course, lots of songs! We will have fun using our creativity to do a little improvisation, composing and song writing! We recommend a soprano ukulele. If you plan to purchase an instrument please email us; we have special pricing on a variety of ukuleles from Antonio Violins and Ukes. This class is only offered online. Great for holiday gifting: We have a special offer of $125 for one 5-week course, registration fee and a ukulele from Antonio Violins and Ukes.


Junior Musical Theatre Intensive

Junior Musical Theatre Intensive (Jr. MTI) provides a challenging and disciplined educational experience for students ages 9-14 who have a special interest in musical theatre. The students receive instruction in audition preparation, vocal music, dance, and performance technique. For the Spring Semester students will work towards a lightly staged, abridged version of "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying".  Classes will be in person, but size will be limited by dividing classrooms, with some online elements.  In person meetings will require masks.  

The performance will be recorded live without an audience. Students are not required to audition for enrollment but will audition for roles once class begins.


Ballet | Intermediate Levels 5 and up

The philosophy of the ballet program is that every student deserves careful and individualized training from qualified instructors. A variety of levels from beginning to intermediate to Company are available for our students. These open ballet classes for returning students and new placements are offered both online and in person.


Music Theory for College Prep

  • Age group: Grades 8-12
  • Dates: Sundays, January 31-April 4, 2021
  • Times: Advanced Level 6-7 p.m.; Entry Level 7-8 p.m. 
  • Tuition: $155/10-week session
  • Instructor: Martin Hebel

Now is the time to begin preparing for your college music theory placement test and build the necessary foundation to succeed in undergraduate music theory classes by taking the CCM Preparatory theory course for high school musicians. Entry Level: Intended for students who have had little/no previous music theory instruction. Advanced Level: Intended for students who have studied music theory previously in an official capacity, especially students who completed my fall class. Both class levels are offered online. This 10-week session is designed to introduce the basic rudiments of music theory, including:

  • Pitch reading in all common clefs
  • Intervals and Scales
  • Triads and Seventh Chords
  • Roman numeral Analysis and Figured Bass Symbols

Cincinnati Youth Wind Ensemble

  • Age group: Grades 9-12
  • Dates: January 24-April 26, 2021
  • Tuition: $185

New Horizons Orchestra

  • Age group: 50 and up
    Dates: January 13-April 24, 2021
  • Tuition: Beginner: $100/semester; Intermediate and Advanced: $150/semester
  • Instructor: Dr. Betty Anne Gottlieb

New Horizons Music programs provide entry points to music-making for people over age 50, including those with no musical experience at all and adults who were active in school music programs, but have been inactive for a long period.

CCM Prep's New Horizons Orchestra offers ensemble instruction under the direction of experienced teacher Betty Anne Gottlieb. You’ll find music making is great for mental and social stimulation, physical fitness, releasing stress and stimulating your creativity. These classes are offered both online and in person.
