The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music provides high-caliber summer performing arts classes and workshops that are open to students of all experience levels. Explore CCM's youth, teen and adult summer programs below!

CCM Summer Programs offer arts enthusiasts the chance to work with the college's world-class faculty and renowned guest artists at CCM's state-of-the-art facilities. Programs include experiences in ballet, musical theatre, jazz, guitar, strings, winds and choral conducting!

Youth Programs

  • Dates: June 5-July 19

  • Tuition: $400

Offered two days a week on Monday and Wednesdays, this class approaches more complicated ballet combinations for barre and center work. It continues the importance of proper ballet technique, alignment, body placement, body awareness, musicality and phrasing, as well as continued emphases on performance quality. Increased flexibility, endurance and body strength are also stressed to allow for the development of higher elevations and leg extensions (levels 3-4).

Prep Youth Ballet
  • Dates: June 12-16
  • Director: Tricia Sundbeck
  • Tuition: $250

Dance camp immerses young dancers ages 6-8 in movement and imagination as they dance their way through beloved stories and develop an appreciation for music and dance. We will join Ariel and her friends for an underwater adventure. Each day we will dance, create a craft and get ready for a mini performance at the end of the week. 

Prep Youth Ballet
  • Dates: July 10-14
  • Director: Tricia Sundbeck
  • Tuition: $250

Dance camp immerses young dancers ages 3-6 in movement and imagination as they dance their way through beloved stories and develop an appreciation for music and dance. We will join Mirabel and her family for a magical adventure. Each day we will dance, create a craft and get ready for a mini performance at the end of the week.

  • Age group: K-6th grades
  • Tuition: $300

Practice your instrument, gain new friends and have fun learning pieces while improving your technique! CCM Prep faculty are planning a full week of classes, chamber music and orchestra rehearsals, mini-lessons, enrichment, games and fun activities for suzuki and traditional string students. Students in grades K-6 are welcome to sign-up, and will be placed in age-appropriate groups. Previous playing experience is required.

  • 9-10 a.m.: Orchestra Rehearsal
  • 10-11a.m.: Mini Lessons
  • 11 a.m.-12 p.m.: Chamber Music Rehearsal
  • 12-1 p.m.: Lunch and Free Time
  • 1-2 p.m.: Exploration of the Arts with Guest Artists: Theater, Costume Design, Media Production
  • 2-3 p.m.: Arts and Crafts   
  • 3-4 p.m.: Practice and/or Large Group Activities

Teen Programs

  • Tuition: $500

The Ballet Intensive offers a comprehensive training program for young women and men specializing in ballet technique, pointe, classical ballet repertoire and modern dance in an intensive environment, Monday through Friday. Additional supplemental classes in contemporary dance, musical theatre, Pilates, injury prevention and nutrition will be included, as well as seminars by guest teachers and speakers to expand the students’ knowledge on specific dance topics. Students aged 14 to 18 are eligible. The workshop is appropriate for intermediate through advanced dancers (levels 5-7).

Audition not required.

  • 9:30-10 a.m.: Stretch
  • 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: Ballet Class
  • 12:45-1:45 p.m.: Pointe/Variation
  • 2-3:30 p.m.: Guest instructor lesson
  • Small show on Friday for parents

  • Dates: June 5-July 27
  • Director: Tricia Sundbeck
  • Tuition: $10 per class

This technique class is offered four days per week on Monday–Thursday from 6:30-8 p.m. This level of student will continue fine tuning and enhancing their training in all the areas of classical ballet. They will develop stronger musicality, phrasing and performance qualities. Classes are drop-in only throughout the summer (levels 5-7).

CCM Jazz students perform
  • Dates: June 12-16
  • Directors: Isidore Rudnick, Fine Arts Curriculum Manager, Cincinnati Public Schools and Eric Lechliter, CCM Prep Youth Jazz Orchestra director
  • Tuition: $180
  • Audition: Not required

The CCM/CPS Summer Jazz Academy offers an outstanding experience to study jazz performance with professional musicians and other students in a friendly and encouraging environment. Daily classes will include jazz ensembles, jazz history, jazz theory, jazz improvisation as well as jazz arranging and college audition preparation for high school students. The faculty includes leading jazz performers and jazz educators from CCM, CPS and the Greater Cincinnati region. The week concludes with a performance by all student groups. A completed and submitted registration form by the deadline is required; deadline March 1.

No audition is necessary but space is limited so get your registration in as soon as possible. Participants need at least one year of experience performing on an instrument. Eligible registrants should be entering grades 5 through 12 in Fall 2023.

NOTE: Cincinnati Public Schools students must register through a separate online form. Please contact ccmprep@uc.edu for a CPS-specific registration form.

  • 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m.: Jazz Theory/ Ear Training
  • 12-2 p.m.: Lunch and Immersion Class

  • 2:30-4 p.m.: Combo
  • 4-5 p.m.: Jazz Band Rehearsal

  • Dates: June 20-July 1
  • Director: Dee Anne Bryll
  • Tuition: $1,500

This program is designed for talented, motivated and dedicated high school students, rising sophomores through seniors, who have a strong interest in and passion for musical theatre. Voice, dance, and acting are taught by conservatory faculty and local professionals as well as faculty of CCM Prep. Auditions are required.

Students may audition for the Musical Theatre Workshop online (information and audition link coming soon). Priority is given to applications received by the published deadlines:

  • Priority Deadline: March 3
  • Hard Deadline: March 15

Applications may be viewed until April 1, if any spaces remain. Please keep in mind this is a very competitive program and the sooner the audition materials are received, the better. For your best chance, please submit by March 3.

CCM's Moveable Feast. Classical guitar
  • Dates: July 16-22
  • Director: Chris Wilke
  • Tuition: $725
  • Audition: Not required

An exceptional immersive experience in all aspects of classical guitar and guitar in general, the CCM Guitar Workshop is open to all musicians wishing to improve their skills and connect with fellow players. The Workshop is a weeklong course in which participants benefit from classes in technique, history, performance practice and pedagogy. The schedule features daily masterclasses and lectures on special topics. The heart of the program centers around ensemble playing in which participants receive individualized coaching from professional guitarists.

Featuring CCM’s outstanding guitar faculty as well as internationally renowned guests, the workshop will culminate in a participants’ concert on the final day. Open to adults and high school students of all levels.

CCM International Wind Festival

  • Dates: May 30-June 3, 2023 
  • Tuition: $675

Features of the CCM International Wind Festival:

  • Rehearsals and community performances of standard wind band repertoire with Conductor of United States Marine Band “The Presidents Own” Colonel Jason Fettig, CCM Director of Wind Studies Kevin Michael Holzman, and Conducting Fellows
  • Rehearsals and performances of chamber music to include chamber winds, brass choir and saxophone ensemble, coached by members of the “President’s Own”
  • Master classes for each instrument with members of “The President’s Own” focused on military band audition excerpts
  • Mock military band auditions with feedback from members of “The President’s Own.”
  • Presentations and career development sessions by CCM Faculty and President’s Own faculty
  • Social/networking events with festival faculty and participants

Conductor's Academy

  • Dates: May 30-June 3, 2023 
  • Tuition: $750 conducting fellows/$400 conducting observers
  • Directors: Division Head of Ensembles and Conducting Kevin Michael Holzman and Associate Professor of Trumpet Michael Mergen

Ten Conducting Fellows will be selected by audition. Features of the Conducting Fellowship:

  • Conducting rehearsal and performance with the CCM International Wind Festival Band and Chamber Ensembles, with video footage
  • Master classes sessions/lessons with festival conducting faculty
  • Presentations by festival faculty
  • Career development sessions
  • Social/networking events with festival faculty and participants

International Conducting Training Program:

  • Dates: July 8-15
  • Faculty: Joe Miller and Brett Scott
  • Tuition: $975 (campus housing and parking are available separately for an additional fee)

The International Conducting Training Program (ICTP) is a rigorous and competitive opportunity providing advanced conducting training for professionals seeking to gain experience and guidance from CCM’s renowned conducting faculty. ICTP Fellows, accepted by audition only, will receive intensive instruction in score analysis, work with a professional chorus and orchestra, and participate in the CCM Choral Conducting Workshop.

ICTP Conducting Fellows will prepare masterworks for performance during the week-long festival, engaging in all areas of preparation and working one-on-one with the faculty. The week will culminate with concert featuring CCM’s outstanding Choral and Voice faculty in a performance at Cincinnati’s Christ Church Cathedral.

Choral Conducting Workshop:

  • Dates: July 9-15
  • Director: Joe Miller 
  • Tuition: $700 (campus housing and parking are available separately for an additional fee)

Offering exceptional training in choral pedagogy, literature, and performance, the CCM Choral Conducting Workshop is open to all musicians, and is especially geared toward choral educators, church musicians and others who work with choral groups. Participants will also intersect with participants in CCM’s International Conducting Training Program.

The workshop will be a week-long immersion in new pedagogies and literature with participants receiving daily training in voice pedagogy, choral pedagogy, performance practice and exploring a wide range of historic and modern repertoire. The week will culminate with concert featuring CCM’s outstanding Choral and Voice faculty in a performance at Cincinnati’s Christ Church Cathedral.
