1819 Innovation Hub connects UC with industry
University-Industry Engagement Advisor cites 1819 as a model for universities
With an intentional strategy of connecting with industry partners, the University of Cincinnati's 1819 Innovation Hub is a model for universities, University-Industry Engagement Advisor reported.
The 1819 Innovation Hub is the Center for the Silicon Heartland and serves as an ecosystem and catalyst for collaboration between industry and talent. The building in the Cincinnati Innovation District is home to UC's Venture Lab, Ground Floor Makerspace, Esports Innovation Lab and the Office of Technology Transfer. It also connects the university to partners from startups to Fortune 500 companies.
“It makes it more thoughtful to have a space so close to campus for our partners to engage with students,” said Jesse Lawrence, the hub’s director of partner success. “Talent is big for all of our partners here in the building — how they’re looking at a partnership and why they would want to have a space to engage students.”
Along with connecting industry partners to students and researchers, the 1819 Innovation Hub provides its partners with reskilling, upskilling and executive education.
“They want to bring in these learning elements that they don’t have in-house within their company, or that they do but just want to put a new spin on,” Lawrence said. “We have a whole group here that’s dedicated to corporate learning.”
