UC selects dean to lead renowned performing and media arts college 
Peter Jutras, PhD, professor of piano and piano pedagogy and director of the Hugh Hodgson School of Music (HHSOM) at the University of Georgia, has been named dean of the UC College-Conservatory of Music, effective Aug.1, 2024, pending approval of the UC Board of Trustees. Cincinnati Business Courier - Cincinnati Youth Choir founder Robyn Lana to step down after 32-year tenure 
The Cincinnati Youth Choir (CYC), ensemble-in-residence at CCM, announced on April 3 that Robyn Lana will end her tenure as artistic director at the conclusion of the 2024-25 season. She will then take the position of director emerita and continue to lead the alumni choir and network. Read more

Cincinnati Magazine - "Alvin Crawford Set His Life to Music" 
Alvin and Jean Crawford have a lifelong love of music and the arts, which led them to connect with CCM. A retied orthopaedic surgeon, Crawford performs in local bands and teaches a jazz history course at CCM. Talkin' Broadway - REVIEW 'Once On This Island'  
Scott Cain shared a glowing review of CCM's production of the college's latest musical presentation: "Once On This Island contains many unexpected elements and is unique and varied in the story and in how it's told. CCM's first-rate cast and a solid staging effectively showcased this superb score and heartbreaking yet hopeful story." Read more

League of Cincinnati Theatres - "REVIEW 'Once On This Island' Brings Dazzling Storm to CCM" 
CCM's Musical Theatre Series presented Once On This Island on March 28-30. Directed by alumni guest artist Torie Wiggins, the production recieved rave reviews. League of Cincinnati Theatres praised the musical in two reviews: "With stellar casting, star-making performances, and a keen technical design, CCM's colorful production of 'Once on This Island' is among the best musicals staged this season." read LCT's first review and read LCT's second review

New York Times - "Using Opera to Shine a Light on Wrongful Imprisonment"
The New York Times recently featured the East Coast premiere of Blind Injustice, an opera based on true exonerations achieved by the Ohio Innocence Project. Directed by CCM Opera Professor Robin Guarino, the production opened on Feb. 16 , 2024, at Peak Performances at Montclair State University. Premiered in 2019 at Cincinnati Opera, the opera was first workshopped through Opera Fusion: New Works (OF:NW), a collaboration between Cincinnati Opera and CCM; read more.

League of Cincinnati Theatres - "REVIEW: CCM's 'Little Women' is Big on Talent" 
CCM's Musical Theatre Series recently presented a nearly sold-out run of Little Women at Household Books, presented Feb. 21-25, 2024. League of Cincinnati Theatres praised the production in two reviews: "CCM’s Little Women is a classic story which resonates through the decades. The modern musical is filled with laughs, tears, and hummable tunes which are sure to entertain any theater-goer." Read LCT's first review and read LCT's second review

Movers and Makers Cincinnati - "CCM professor honored by American Academy of Arts and Letters" 
CCM Professor of Composition Michael Fiday is one of four 2024 recipients of an Arts and Letters Award in Music. The prize includes a $10,000 grants and recognizes composers who have found their own voice as an artist; read more.

Movers and Makers Cincinnati - PREVIEW "CCM’s ‘Cunning Little Vixen’ a symbolic and surreal mix of humans and animals" 
Next OnStage at CCM is Leoš Janáček's The Cunning Little Vixen, presented as part of CCM's Opera Series Feb. 29-March 2 in Corbett Auditorium; tickets on sale now. Writer Thomas Consolo interviewed the opera's director Brian Robertson and guest conductor Vinay Parameswaran for the Movers and Makers feature story. "Human and animal worlds mix in symbolic and surreal ways in his 1923 opera 'The Cunning Little Vixen,' leaving audience members to contemplate their relationships to each other and the world"; read more

Cincinnati Business Courier - "REVIEW: Louis Langrée leads CSO, May Festival Chorus in sublime ‘Ein Deutsches Requiem’" 
Cincinnati arts writer Janelle Gelfand spotlights the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra's February 9 performance of Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem, which featured alumna Joélle Harvey (BM Voice '07, MM Voice '09). "Harvey, a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, sang with tender expression in her fifth movement solo, “Ihr habt nun Traurigkeit” (“You have now sorrow”), a message of consolation. She floated a pure-toned, radiant soprano against the soft choral and orchestral backdrop"; read more

CCM's Play Series presented Clue: On Stage Feb. 8-10 in Patricia Corbett Theater with SOLD OUT performances! From League of Cincinnati Theatres' review: "The opening night audience fully appreciated this laugh-packed journey through the classic murder mystery"; read more.

Janelle's Notes - PREVIEW "A month of great music at CCM, mostly free" 
Cincinnati arts writer Janelle Gelfand attended a free faculty artist recital by Dror Biran on February 4, and spotlights upcoming events including the Ariel Quartet's concert on Feb. 13 and the Undergraduate Opera's performance of The Marriage of Figaro (Feb. 15-17; currently SOLD OUT) ; read more

Local 12 WKRC - Alumni spotlight "UC alum becomes first female drum major to lead Army Band at D.C. monument" 
CCM alumna Adrienne Doctor (BM Music Ed, ’11; MM Trumpet, ’15) is the first female drum major to lead a band at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery. Sergeant First Class Doctor is a trumpet player, bugler and drum major in the globally renowned United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own.” Doctor told WKRC: "I've had a lot of incredible leaders to watch and emulate that have really inspired me. I'm thankful that they have led the way and showed me that I can, I can do anything here"; read more.

In the News: CCM performs at New York's Carnegie Hall 
On Sunday, Jan. 14, 2024, more than 100 students and alumni took the stage at New York's Carnegie Hall to honor UC College-Conservatory of Music alumnus Stephen Flaherty and celebrate CCM's Broadway impact. Ticket proceeds and donations from the event support scholarships and initiatives at CCM — benefitting the next generation of performing and media artists at the college. The college’s spring 2023 schedule of free and ticketed events is now available. Tickets go on sale to the general public beginning on Monday, Nov. 28, through the CCM Box Office.
