CCM Jazz Orchestra plays big band hits on Sept. 22
Featuring Swing Era classics from Count Basie, Tommy Dorsey, and more
Story by CCM Graduate Assistant Kierra Mykel
The CCM Jazz Orchestra Concert is excited to welcome audiences to its season opening concert at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2024 in Corbett Auditorium. Under the direction of Scott Belck, the performance highlights the Swing Era of jazz music popularized by big band hits of Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Harry James and many more.
Through the mid 1930s to late 1940s, danceable jazz played by big bands established the Swing Era of music. It was the only time in American music history that the popularity of jazz eclipsed all other forms of music as the dominant sound of ballrooms and radio broadcasts around the country. This concert guaranteed to make audiences want to jump, dance and jive to the beat!
Swing over to CCM Jazz Orchestra concert at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, in Corbett Auditorium. Tickets are on sale now through the CCM Box Office.
In the wings: Join us for the CCM Jazz Orchestra's next ticketed concert on Wednesday, Oct. 30, featuring guest artist Ashlin Parker, trumpet. Learn more.
