US Marine Band presents free concert at CCM on Oct. 4

The performance is free, but ticket reservations are required

"The President's Own" United States Marine Band's "Coast to Coast" concert tour stops at UC's College-Conservatory of Music for a free performance at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4 in Corbett Auditorium. Admission is free, but ticket reservations are required

Mulitple CCM alumni are members of "The President's Own" and will return to perform in the concert at CCM, including Courtney Morton (BM Flute, '04), Taylor Fleshman (BM Harp, '18), Samuel Barlow (MM Trombone, '03), Cecilia Kozlowski (MM Horn, '10) and Zachary Gauvain (MM Clarinet, '11). Additional CCM alumni band members include Hiram Diaz (BM Euphonium, '07), Charles Paul (BM Horn, '02), Elisabeth Plunk (BM Flute, '01), William Bernier (MM Clarinet, '00), Brent Proseus (MM Jazz Studies, '22) and Jennifer Paul (MM Horn, '03).

The performance will also feature CCM Division Head of Ensembles and Conducting and Director of Wind Studies Kevin Michael Holzman leading the band in Gustav Holst's Moorside March.

"We are thrilled to return to CCM with the United States Marine Band," says Marine Band Director Lt. Col. Ryan Nowlin. "As a native Ohioan myself, this trip will undoubtedly be a memorable one."

"The connection between “The President’s Own” and CCM is a special one, as so many of our players, especially in the brass section, have received a portion of their formative study from this elite institution."

The Marine Band is America’s oldest continuously active professional musical organization. Founded in 1798, the band has performed for every U.S. President since John Adams. Known as “The President’s Own” since the days of Thomas Jefferson, the Marine Band’s primary mission is to provide music for the President of the United States and the Commandant of the Marine Corps. Marine Band Director Lt. Col. Ryan Nowlin has chosen a diverse mix of programs, from traditional band repertoire and marches to instrumental solos.

"It is particularly fitting that, upon his retirement from the Marine Band, Michael Mergen joined CCM as Associate Professor of Trumpet, solidifying a long-standing connection between our two beloved institutions," Nowlin says. "Appropriately, we will feature our virtuosic cornet soloist, Gunnery Sgt. Chris Larios, to showcase the marvels of the trumpet."

"The President's Own" US Marine Band presents its FREE concert at CCM at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4.

Please remember that all unredeemed ticket reservations for this concert will be considered void at 7:15 p.m. on Friday, so you are strongly encouraged to arrive on UC’s campus by 7 p.m. to redeem your tickets.

UC will also be hosting a Moeller versus Elder football game in Nippert Stadium beginning at 7 p.m. that evening, so traffic on and around campus will be heavier than normal. CCM patrons are encouraged to purchase parking to UC's CCM Garage in advance through the CCM Box Office.
