Joint Statement on Recent Reports

Dear UC Students, Faculty, and Staff,

We have received reports about certain conduct directed towards various members within our University community.  Some have been previously reported in local media, like defacing student organization flyers, while others are part of identifiable national trends, such as targeted text messages.

While the University is committed to safeguarding the freedom of expression, statements or comments that are harassing and are targeted to individuals or groups based on a protected class, such as race, ethnic origin, or religion, may be a violation of University policies and/or federal and state laws.

We take allegations of harassment seriously. To combat harassment, the University relies on its members to report incidents and to share information they know relating to these incidents. If you have experienced or witnessed an incident of harassment, please submit a report. And if you are not comfortable submitting a report, please know that you can submit information anonymously via EthicsPoint.

The University is fortunate to have a large student population with diverse experiences, perspectives, and beliefs.  Productive and civil exchanges are essential to the academic environment.  Harassment is not. We all must work together to maintain an environment where everyone feels safe, valued, and respected.

• UCPD Victim Services: The Crime Victim Services Coordinator, is responsible for ensuring the rights of crime victims and witnesses by providing guidance and support as they navigate the criminal justice system and helping them access available resources provided by the university and Greater Cincinnati community.

• Dean of Students Office: The Dean of Students team offers a variety of services and resources to support your safety, well-being, and success.  The team provides timely support through a variety of programs, including crisis management, conflict resolution, and emergency response.

• Connection Space: Student Affairs is coordinating the Connection Space - a temporary, judgement-free area with supportive staff and students where all Bearcats can take a moment to de-stress, relax, process, breathe, and reset. You can look for staff and student leaders from across Student Affairs who will be present to listen, connect, and support you. The Connection Space is located at Steger 539.

• Employee Resources: Faculty and staff can access mental health sessions, support and resources as part of their employment benefits. Details are on Bearcats Landing (UC login required).·
