President Pinto announces UC’s new executive vice president for academic affairs and provost
Dr. Gerry Bradley joins UC from University of Louisville beginning June 1
President Pinto shared the below message with campus today:
Dear Colleagues,
I am delighted to announce the appointment of the University of Cincinnati’s new executive vice president for academic affairs and provost. Pending approval by the UC Board of Trustees, Dr. Gerard (Gerry) Bradley will begin as the university’s chief academic officer effective June 1, 2025.

Dr. Bradley comes to UC from the University of Louisville, where he has served as executive vice president and university provost for the last three years, including two years as interim. In that time, he helped Louisville grow its enrollment to a record 24,000 students. The student success model Dr. Bradley developed has proven highly effective in supporting at-risk students, helping boost the school’s retention rate. He also led the development of Louisville’s new budget model, helped increase need-based scholarships, overhauled student advising and spearheaded the first faculty compensation study.
Dr. Bradley’s selection follows a national search and a thorough vetting process that included open forums with finalists. The provost search committee was chaired by Dr. Kristi Nelson, who paused her retirement for a second time to serve as UC’s interim provost in November.
Dr. Nelson has been an exceptional friend to this university and an outstanding advocate for our students, faculty and staff for more than 40 years. I’m personally grateful for her dedication and especially appreciative of the outstanding work of the search committee who helped us recruit Dr. Bradley.
During my entire academic career, I have had a deep commitment to academic excellence and student success. As a first-generation student myself, I have experienced first-hand the transformative nature of higher education.
Dr. Gerry Bradley
Before serving as UofL’s top academic officer, Dr. Bradley served as the university’s dean of the School of Dentistry from 2016 to 2024. Prior to that, he was chair and professor of developmental sciences at Marquette University School of Dentistry, where he also served as the associate dean for research and graduate studies.
Dr. Bradley had the following to share about his appointment:

“What excites me about UC is the commitment through the Next Lives Here strategic direction to push the boundaries in innovation and impact in this new AI-driven digital world. The energy and excitement were palpable to me when I visited campus, and I am so thrilled to play a role in the next phase of UC’s continued success.”
Dr. Bradley received his dental degree in Cork, Ireland. He did his orthodontic specialty training at Ohio State University and completed his doctorate in dentistry at the University of Bern, Switzerland. He and his wife have five sons.
As UC’s provost, Dr. Bradley will be responsible for both the day-to-day operation and long-term direction of our academic mission. He will also oversee all our colleges and deans. Please join me in congratulating Dr. Gerry Bradley on his appointment.

University of Cincinnati college is piloting a program to serve alumni of foster and kinship care

In 2025 the Ohio Reach Postsecondary designation was awarded to UC's College of Education, Criminal Justice, Human Services, and Information Technology (CECH) as part of the program's third cohort. The program recognizes and supports higher education institutions that have worked to make their campuses welcoming and accessible for students with a history in foster or kinship care. CECH will run a pilot program called Anchor Point aimed at wide-scale implementation across the campus in Fall 2026.
