CCM Jazz Orchestra Celebrates the Big Band Genius of Ray Charles
An unforgettable night of soul, swing, and timeless hits featuring guest Jumaane Smith
Story by CCM Graduate Assistant Kierra Mykel
The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) invites audiences to experience a powerful tribute to a music icon with the Big Band Genius of Ray Charles, performed by the CCM Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Eric Lechliter at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 13 in Corbett Auditorium.
From the infectious groove of "Hit the Roach Jack" and "I Got a Woman" to the soul-stirring classic "Georgia on My Mind," this celebration brings Ray Charles' genius and legacy to life in a big band setting.
This high-energy concert features world-renowned jazz trumpeter, vocalist and composer Jumaane Smith, whose charismatic performance will guide audiences through Ray Charles' most iconic songs. Smith, a veteran performer who has toured with Michael Bublé and performed with legends like Stevie Wonder and Quincy Jones, brings a dynamic presence to the CCM stage — blending old-school with electrifying contemporary energy.
Don't miss this unforgettable night of music honoring one of America's most beloved voices, as CCM's talented student musicians and special guest Jumaane Smith fill Corbett Auditorium with rhythm, soul and swing.
