UC Celebrates Summer Graduates

The University of Cincinnati will confer 1,950 degrees to 1,943 students during its summer Commencement ceremony at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 4. 

A single ceremony celebrating all graduates — those receiving associate, bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees — will be held at BB&T Arena on the campus of Northern Kentucky University (about 9 miles away from UC) due to the ongoing renovation of longtime Commencement venue Fifth Third Arena. Doors open at 2:30 p.m.; will-call windows open at noon.

In addition, grads are encouraged to attend the Discover UCYP event hosted by UC Alumni Association Young Professionals at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3 at Nippert Stadium West Pavilion. Admission is free; online registration is requested.

ABOUT THE GRADUATES

  • The summer 2017 graduating class hails from 47 states and 46 countries.
  • The degree breakdown is as follows: 126 associate degrees, 692 bachelor’s degrees, 987 master’s degrees and 145 doctoral degrees.
  • STEMM degrees will be awarded to 53.7 percent of graduates.
  • Twelve percent of graduates are first-generation college students.
  • The average age of all graduates is 29, with students ranging from 19 to 71 years old.
  • More than 600 students will graduate from distance learning programs. 
CEREMONY DETAILS

  • This is a ticketed event. All students should have reserved tickets for family and guests.
  • Graduate check-in will take place in BB&T’s “Vault lounge,” with line-up in the conference rooms.

  • Nunn Drive near the primary entrance is often congested with traffic. Please plan accordingly and seek alternative entrances/exits.

The Ohio Cyber Range Institute at the University of Cincinnati recently received $227,000 from the Ohio Controlling Board., reported Local 12 News. The OCRI manages the Ohio Cyber Range on behalf of the state. It is a statewide, collaborative network that supports cybersecurity programs across Ohio.
