CCM ensembles present their first concerts of spring semester

CCM's Wind Symphony, Philharmonia and Jazz Orchestra return to the stage this week

The UC College-Conservatory of Music’s Spring 2023 Concert Series continues this week with performances by some of the college’s premier ensembles.

The CCM Wind Symphony performs masterworks old and new at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27. Under the direction of CCM faculty member Kevin Michael Holzman, the evening features Jennifer Higdon’s Blue Cathedral and Michael Martin’s monumental symphony Lontano. Presented in Corbett Auditorium, this concert also features the Sycamore High School Sycamore Winds. Tickets are $19.50; student and group discounts are also available.


Under the direction of CCM faculty member Mark Gibson, the CCM Philharmonia explores contrasting views of tonality and style in a performance at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28, in Corbett Auditorium featuring works by Gabriela Lena Frank, Igor Stravinsky and Antonín Dvořák. Winner of the CCM Violin Concerto Competition, doctoral student Yucheng Zeng will be featured as soloist in Stravinsky’s virtuosic Violin Concerto in D Major, which will be conducted by doctoral student Hannah Schendel. Tickets are $25; student and group discounts are also available.


Finally, the CCM Jazz Orchestra opens its spring concert series with a performance at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29, in Corbett Auditorium. Directed by CCM faculty member Scott Belck, the concert program is scheduled to include works like Bob Mintzer's Tribute and Papa Lips, Bob Brookmeyer's Hello and Goodbye, Bob Florence's Be Bop Charlie, Kenny Wheeler's Gentle Piece, Mark Buselli's The Trouble with Triplets and Oliver Nelson's Self Help is Needed. Tickets are $25; student and group discounts are also available.

Parking is available in UC's CCM Garage (located at the base of Corry Boulevard off Jefferson Avenue) and additional garages throughout the UC campus. 

CCM OnStage patrons can add pre-paid parking to their checkout carts when purchasing tickets. Pre-paid parking is date/performance specific. CCM Garage parking rates for a performance or special event is usually available for $10-15. Learn more about parking at UC's CCM Garage.
