UC’s 1819 Innovation Hub recognized for industry partner impact
Charting transformative success
The impact of the University of Cincinnati's 1819 Innovation Hub on its industry partners comes to light in a recent article featured in the University-Industry Engagement Advisor.
The collaborative spaces on each floor have proven to be a catalyst for innovation and a source of valuable opportunities, showcasing the tangible benefits enjoyed by industry stakeholders such as Western & Southern, Procter & Gamble and Fifth Third Bank, who have relocated to the hub.
Inside its walls, the spirit of community and innovation flourishes, nurturing connections through faculty-designed workshops and educational opportunities for executives and staff of corporate partners.
“Our partners like the idea of engaging with some of the top researchers in the world in different subject areas," Jesse Lawrence, director of partner success in the 1819 Innovation Hub, said. "The university provides this kind of access to talent and then access to knowledge.”
Lawrence shared the fundamental framework of the 1819 Innovation Hub, which was built upon the following four pillars:
- Talent
- Research
- Learning
- Community
STEM students engage in cooperative education at the 1819 Innovation Hub.
UC’s pioneering model for cooperative education fosters student engagement with industry partners interested in collaborating with students, especially in the STEM domains. Notably, CincyTech has orchestrated a connection through student internships. The organization also unveiled its Scholar Program for UC graduate students, an initiative that matches the organization's aspirations with university resources.
As part of the Cincinnati Innovation District, the hub continues to evolve, introducing innovative programs, upskilling and reskilling boot camps, research projects and capstone presentations in diverse disciplines. UC's Venture Lab, designed for startups, has experienced substantial growth, generating significant funding and revenue.
Adaptability underscores the Innovation Hub's commitment to staying at the forefront of innovation and community development. Since its unveiling, the multifaceted approach of the 1819 Innovation Hub has evolved into a transformative ecosystem in pursuit of visionary progress and a thriving nexus where academia, industry and the community converge.
