CCM hosts Conducting Symposium on Nov. 12-14

UC's College-Conservatory of Music hosts the CCM Wind Conducting Symposium on Nov. 12-14, 2026. Open to emerging and established conductors, participants will have the opportunity to conduct CCM ensembles and receive instruction and feedback from CCM Wind Studies faculty Kevin Holzman and Tyler Ehrlich, as well as guest artist/clinician Jerry Junkin, Director of Bands at The University of Texas at Austin.

Participants in the CCM Conducting Symposium will work with large ensembles and chamber ensembles on repertoire including Mozart’s Serenade in B-flat Major, K. 361 “Gran Partita;" Stravinsky’s Octet for Wind Instruments, Gao Hong’s “Celebration” for Chamber Winds, Percy Grainger’s “Lincolnshire Posy,” Frank Ticheli’s “Blue Shades” and Gustav Holst’s Second Suite in F. 

CCM Wind Conducting Symposium Fellows will engage in five conducting rounds with CCM ensembles and receive high-quality video recordings after each session. Pre-screening materials for Fellows are due by August 31 and include a brief video and a resume/CV. Accepted Fellows will submit the participant fee upon acceptance.

Additionally, a limited number of Auditor slots will be filled upon registration on a first-come, first-served basis (no pre-screening required). Auditors can register online now.

Conductors and auditors will participate in faculty-led seminars, enjoy social events and attend a concert by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.

• Fellow track: $350 *Pre-Screening required; submit pre-screening materials online
• Auditor track: $200 ($50 discount for Tri-State educators to attend as auditors; email Kevin Holzman for the discount code) *No pre-screening required

Required pre-screening materials for participants: 

• One video of no more than 15 minutes demonstrating conducting ability. Video can be of performance or rehearsal, and can include one or more works. A conductor-facing camera angle is preferred but not required.
• A resume or CV which includes repertoire performed and studied.

Are you interested in the auditor track instead? A limited number of auditors may participate in all aspects of the symposium with the exception of ensemble conducting. No pre-screening necessary for auditors; registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
