Watch "Celebrate UC!" via streaming video
University of Cincinnati took a few moments on
Sept. 25
to say thank you to employees who do great work. At the second annual Celebrate UC! event, six individuals and two teams stepped on stage to receive crystal Presidents Quality Service Awards, as well as rounds of applause from their cheering co-workers.
This years celebration took place at the new Great Hall, atop Tangeman University Centers south wing. Speakers included President Joseph A. Steger, Vice President for Administrative & Business Services James R. Tucker , Associate Vice President for Human Resources Jill Pollock, Senior Vice President and Provost for Health Affairs Jane Henney and Vice Provost for Academic Planning Kristi Nelson. The awards celebration is sponsored by the UC Quality Service Initiative.
This years honorees come from units across UC campuses. Recipients include a coordinator of graduate studies in English, a staff assistant in chemical and materials engineering, an audio-visual equipment specialist at the Medical Center, the Dean and University Librarian, an assistant dean for business affairs, a team that works to keep Dyer Hall/Teachers College shining, and a team that offers tutoring assistance in every subject taught at Clermont College. Along with their statuette, the winners receive a cash prize.
"The people who win these awards are the best of the best," said President Steger during the ceremony. "It's not that we have to chase these people - it's that we have to follow them." Great service, the president summed up, is "all about people."
Added Tucker: "Quality service is personal. And it's up to each of us and all of us together to improve the quality of service at UC."
