Gold medal-winning Olympic runner, former teacher, author and motivational speaker Mary Wineberg was born in Brooklyn, came to Cincinnati at a young age, and was educated in the Cincinnati Public School system. She discovered running in high school and went to college at UC on an athletic scholarship, and after college she began the rigorous work of training for the Olympics—a feat she attained in 2008, when she earned a gold medal running in the first leg for the U.S. Women's 4 × 400m relay.

The loud roar of a jet engine can have far-reaching consequences, from hearing damage among aircraft carrier deck crews to noise pollution around airports and stress on aircraft components. Kaurab Gautam, a PhD student in aerospace engineering at the University of Cincinnati, is working to reduce this noise. A member of the Gas Dynamics and Propulsion Lab, Gautam's research focuses on understanding supersonic jet flow and acoustics to develop jet noise mitigation techniques. Recently, he was named Graduate Student Engineer of the Month by the College of Engineering and Applied Science for this work.

His work in the field of gas turbine simulation and design continues to leave a significant impact on the industry. He was honored by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers with the International Gas Turbine Institute Scholar Award. Turner is part of the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics at UC.

Since 2021 the University of Cincinnati’s Center for Youth Futures (CYF) has, as its name makes clear, worked to provide opportunities for today’s youth to discover and pursue exciting futures through education. For the past five years, the center (which operates out of the College of Education, Criminal Justice, Human Services, and Information Technology—CECH) has offered a series of programs to youth in grades 4 through 12 that seek to build student academic understanding and emotional intelligence as well as provide education and career pathway information.
