CCM Philharmonia presents concert + livestream on Feb. 20
Watch the performance in person or at home, featuring alumni guests Rebecca Barnes and Jonathan Lee
Audiences can enjoy CCM Philharmonia's next concert in person or watch at home via livestream at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20. Featuring alumni guest artists Rebecca Barnes, viola; and Jonathan Lee, cello; tickets for the "Midlife Crisis" concert are on sale now through the CCM Box Office. The livesteam is free to watch on CCM's website and YouTube channel.
Led by Music Director and Conductor Mark Gibson, the concert program pairs two masterworks that grapple with age, identity and artistic reinvention. The performance opens with Richard Strauss' Don Quixote, Op. 35 (1897). After a brief intermission, the concert continues with Johannes Brahms' Symphony No. 4 in E Minor, Op. 98 (1884).
The legendary Don Quixote is nearing 50 years old as his story unfolds, according to Cervantes as depicted by Strauss. Johannes Brahms was 51 when he wrote his last symphony, Symphony No. 4. Hear how one fictional hero and one musical hero deal with their respective midlife crises.
Livestream viewers can enjoy an interview with Mark Gibson, Barnes (BM Viola Performance, '05; AD Viola Performance, ‘07) and Lee (BM Violoncello Performance, '15) during the 15-minute intermission break. An adjunct professor at CCM, Barnes plays viola at the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Lee is the principal cello at Dayton Philharmonic.
Join us for CCM Philharmonia's "Midlife Crisis" concert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20 in Corbett Auditorium. Tickets are on sale now through the CCM Box Office.
Don’t miss this imaginative evening of orchestral music that reflects on life, legacy and the power of music to narrate the human experience.
