CCM Wind Symphony opens season with Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra guest artist
Students return to CCM performance halls, classrooms and rehearsal spaces
Music fills the rehearsal spaces and halls at UC's College-Conservatory of Music as students and faculty prepare for the start of the performance season after the summer break. The CCM Wind Symphony opens its fall performance series on Sunday, Sept. 10, in a special concert featuring Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra guest artist Haley Bangs, flute.
Embracing the back-to-school spirit, CCM invites audiences to enjoy this opening performance by our students as we welcome them back to campus; tickets for this concert are just $10.
The concert, titled "From the Ashes," explores themes of moving towards peace and repose after troubled times. Like the legendary Phoenix, humanity has often risen from the fires of our past and present to emerge stronger than before.
The 90-minute program opens with Adolphus Hailstork's Celebration!, originally commissioned to commemorate the U.S. Bicentennial in 1976. The student ensemble also performs Jeff Vitucci's Caught in the Current and David Maslanka's Tears.
CSO guest artist Haley Bangs, flute, joins the CCM Wind Symphony for Anthony Plog's Flute Concerto. The piece is in three traditional movements, and the flute is used in various ways to show its many moods and colors. The concert comes to a grand finale with Paul Hindemith's Symphony in B-flat, a masterwork that serves as a pillar of wind repertoire.
The CCM Wind Symphony presents its "From the Ashes" concert at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 10 in Corbett Auditorium. Tickets are on sale now through the CCM Box Office.
