Fitness Certifications
Campus Recreation is excited to offer nationally accredited courses for the future fitness professional. We aim to offer a prep course each semester that prepares individuals for their respective certification exam.
These courses through Campus Recreation will prepare participants to take the certification exam and provide practical, hands-on skills for leading fitness classes or working with clients. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will have the chance to interview and audition for a position on the fitness team with Campus Recreation.
Attaining a Group Fitness Certification is a great idea for anyone who is interested in teaching any form of group fitness classes at UC Campus Rec, or locally in our community. Our courses and workshops provide a comprehensive overview of the technical skills needed to teach a class, as well as opportunities to practice with others and receive real-time feedback on class creation, content, and teaching style. Typically, Campus Rec offers courses for general Group Fitness as well as the Schwinn Certification, but keep an eye out for pop-up workshops in other formats such as Pilates, Yoga, and more!
Course Offerings Include:
- AFAA or ACE Group Fitness Certification
- Schwinn Cycle Instructor Certification

Obtaining a nationally recognized Personal Training Certification is important for anyone interested in a future as a Personal Trainer. A certification is required of all trainers at UC Campus Rec and most local fitness clubs and studios. The program structure will utilize a combination of lecture and hands-on training sessions with the online self-study for students to complete on their own. This will allow for the best use of time spent face-to-face, including practical application with emphasis on exercise technique, fitness assessments, and training instruction.
Course Offerings Include:
- NASM Personal Training Certification
