Classes & Events
There are a couple of ways to register for classes and competitions:
1. Click the registration link above and register online using the Rec Automation portal or download the app.
2. Stop by the Climbing Wall or Member Services Desk in-person.
Classes & Events
This four-week course will prepare participants to feel confident entering any climbing gym. Staff will focus on technique and terminology while engaging participants in a variety of climbing exercises. Classes will be held weekly on Monday and Tuesday nights at 8:00 PM. There will be no classes during UC holidays or breaks. Spots are limited.

Course Outline
- Week 1 Introduction, equipment, definitions,route reading and etiquette
- Week 2 Bouldering, technique, problem reading, training using feet and sit starts
- Week 3 Belay Certification Part 1
- Week 4 Belay Certification Part 2 and Top Rope climbing
Experience Level
This course is suited best for beginner to intermediate climbers. Beginning climbers will learn the basics of climbing while intermediate climbers will be able to refine skills.
*Participants must pass the Campus Recreation Center belay skills tests in order to be certified to belay at the Campus Recreation Center. Belay Certification is valid for one calendar year. Participants can perform a skills test-out for $5 to get a recertification. You must have perviously been certified at the Campus Recreation Center.

This four-week course will help participants develop a stronger understanding of how to move their bodies more efficiently on the wall. Staff will focus on body positioning, technique, and endurance, while also introducing additional aspects of climbing. Classes will be held weekly on Mondays and Tuesdays, with no sessions during UC holidays or breaks. Course continuation is dependent on participation numbers.
Participants must have prior climbing experience and obtain a belay certification before registering for this course.

Course Outline
- Week 1 Hand and foot techniques, sequencing and efficient climbing
- Week 2 Top roping, endurance, fighting the pump and conserving energy
- Week 3 Discuss strength training and yoga class
- Week 4 Learn about sport and trad climbing
Experience Level
This course is best suited for intermediate climbers. Participants must have a belay certification and 1–2 years of prior climbing experience before enrolling.
At the end of the course, participants will:
- Gain an understanding of basic climbing technique, commands and skills
- Be certified to belay at the Campus Recreation Center*
- Learn training techniques needed to continuously improve skill
Participants in this instructional program are taught the proper belaying procedures and are held to the same standards as staff. Having the certification allows members to belay for each other without being dependent on CRC staff every time they wish to climb. No Belay clinics on UC holidays or breaks.

- Belay Certification Clinics are offered at the Climbing Wall on the following dates:

- Thursday, February 19, 2026, 8 p.m. - 9 p.m.
- Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 8 pm- 9pm
Belay
verb: / bi’lā / the act of tending a climber’s rope to take out slack and secure a fall. The belayer is the person securing the climber.
Course Outline
- Belay Certification Clinics are one 60 minute class. Participants will be required to return to the wall at least 24 - 48 hours after this completed class to take a practical belay skills test.
- Participants who complete the class and skills tests will be certified to belay at the Campus Recreation Center for one calendar year.
- Participants who fail any portion of the class, or associated test will need to re-take (and re-pay the fee) the Belay Certification Clinic.
- Participants with expired certifications can renew their certification anytime the climbing wall is not busy and perform a skills test-out for $5.
Test your bouldering skills at one of our climb night events. These events are a laid-back way to meet others. Each event will have a theme. All levels of experience are welcome. This program is free but registration is required. Spots are limited.

Mile High Club Rules
- Attempts must be made from March 1- March 31, 2026.
- Participants log climbing hours at the climbing wall.
- Earn rewards at multiple milestones, from small to big items.
- Track your progress, challenge yourself and celebrate achievements with other climbers.
Tiered Milestones
- 10 hours - Sticker
- 15 hours - Key chain carabiner
- 20 hours - Mile High Shirt and get your name placed in a raffle to win free chalk

Bouldering competitions consist of climbing short problems with the emphasis on number of problems completed. Climbing conclusion depends on participants numbers.
