Olivia's UHP Journey
Olivia Snyder has pursued a range of opportunities and honors experiences during her time as a Speech Language Hearing Sciences major. A study tour to Greece became her first ever international travel experience; on campus, Snyder designed honors experiences around her campus leadership roles as a spiritual mentor and as the social media manager for the Multicultural Concerns in Communication Disorders (MC^2) campus group.
Two more self-designed experiences bolstered Snyder’s confidence that she was aiming to work in the right field, and with the right population: transcribing audio files related to hearing and communication disorders research at Cincinnati Children’s, and nannying for two local families. This hands-on work confirmed Snyder’s interest in working with a pediatric population, and in the fine-grained details of data management necessary for audiological research. As Snyder reflects: “The UHP gave me opportunities to expand my knowledge about the world around me, find growth and learning opportunities in every situation, and reflect on my past experiences.”
Snyder is heading for further study in Fall 2026: she’ll begin working toward her doctorate in audiology here at UC, with the eventual goal of working with the pediatric cochlear implant population. She feels well-prepared by her previous experiences: “the UHP taught me to seek out learning opportunities in every situation.”
