Biomedical Research and Mentoring Program

The Biomedical Research and Mentoring Program (RaMP) is a pre-approved honors experience geared towards first- and second-year UHP students interested in gaining research experience. Graduate students and post-doctoral fellows mentor undergraduate UHP students in their research labs. The graduate student and post-doctoral fellow mentors are typically from the UC College of Medicine and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.

Students in this program generally have interest in careers in biomedical research and/or entering PhD, MD, or MD/PhD programs in biomedical fields, though it is not required for participation to major in a STEMM field.

Placements typically require 8-15 hours in the lab per week (this will vary by lab) in spring semester. Schedules are flexible and to be agreed upon with research mentor. Some students may continue in their labs in the summer immediately following, but this continuation is not guaranteed.

There is no funding provided by the UHP to students for engagement in this program. These are in-person lab experiences unless specifically stated.

Project Goals

  • To provide first- and second-year undergraduate University Honors students with training and experience in high-level biomedical research.
  • To enable UCCOM and CCHMC graduate students and post-doctoral fellows to develop mentoring skills.

RaMP applications are competitive, and each student can only commit to one lab. Once you commit to a mentor's offer, the matching process is complete.

Students are encouraged to establish a 1–2 year commitment to be trained by the lab and to participate in research under the guidance of the mentor. However, continued placement is not guaranteed.
