Corrine's UHP Journey

For Corrine Anderson, the UHP has offered opportunities to further develop the skills she knew would be essential for success—in her major, Criminal Justice, and in her long-term plan to work in human-rights law—and to step out of her comfort zone while making unexpected connections.

Anderson recalls her experience in an honors writing course as foundational to developing her ability to communicate and shape effective arguments: “I had never received such a high level of individualized support and genuine care for my academic success.” Being encouraged to research and write about her academic and personal interests “solidified that I wanted to pursue a career in law.” Meanwhile, a self-designed honors experience focusing on dance allowed Anderson to explore the social impact of one of her lifelong personal interests, even incorporating her competition at the Universal Dance Association College Nationals.

Ultimately, Anderson’s UHP journey speaks to the resilient, steadfast mindset with which she approaches challenges. “Take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way,” she encourages current UHP students, “and do not be discouraged when an obstacle arises."
