My UHP experience in five words
Challenging, enriching, collaborative, impactful, transformative
Why UHP is for me
The University Honors Program (UHP) is for me because it allows me to grow beyond the classroom through interdisciplinary learning, leadership, and service. It helps me support my goals by encouraging me to explore opportunities like research, community engagement, and global exploration. These activities help challenge me to think critically, act with intention, make a genuine impact. Additionally, UHP fosters a close-knit, motivated community where I’m inspired to pursue excellence while staying true to my values and passions.
The honors experience that made the biggest impact on me
Through the UHP program, I had the opportunity to take a seminar titled Disability and Social Change, which introduced me to the interdisciplinary field of Disability Studies. As an aspiring physician, it is essential for me to understand how health policy, legislation, and societal bias shape the lived experiences of individuals with disabilities. This course provided critical insight into the systemic and institutional inequities that affect a significant portion of the global population. It not only deepened my awareness of disability justice but also laid the foundation for my future as a healthcare provider committed to advocacy, equity, and intentional, compassionate care. This experience has empowered me to approach medicine through a lens of inclusivity and justice, enabling me to better serve and uplift all patients.
If I could go back in time and give myself one piece of advice
"Don’t be afraid to step outside your academic comfort zone, some of the most meaningful growth will come from the unexpected opportunities you take."
What I'm most looking forward to this year
I’m most looking forward to volunteering in my community, where I can make a real difference while learning from hands-on experiences. I’m also excited to take new classes that challenge me and help me grow academically and personally. And of course, I can’t wait to travel more, getting to explore new places, meet new people, and gain fresh perspectives along the way!
