My UHP experience in five words
Curiosity, Growth, Community, Opportunity, Confidence
Why UHP is for me
The University Honors Program is for me because it challenges me to look beyond academics and discover who I am as a learner and a leader. It provides a space where curiosity is valued, and ambition is supported with opportunities that encourage exploration. As someone who wants to make an impact in medicine, I see the UHP as more than just an academic program—it’s a community that pushes me to grow holistically through experiences like study abroad, research, and leadership. The guidance, resources, and mentorship I have received help me shape not only my career goals but also my personal values. UHP gives me the chance to dream bigger and equips me with the confidence to pursue those dreams.
The honors experience that made the biggest impact on me
The Gateway to Honors course has had the biggest impact on me. Entering the program, I felt unsure about how to navigate opportunities and build my portfolio. Through Gateway, I not only learned the structure of the UHP but also gained the confidence to take ownership of my journey. The reflections and projects encouraged me to think deeply about my values, ambitions, and what kind of difference I want to make. It was during this course that I became motivated to learn Spanish, explore study abroad programs, and consider applying for research opportunities like Biomedical RaMP. Most importantly, Gateway introduced me to peers who share a drive for growth, which has been both inspiring and motivating. This experience set the foundation for how I approach every opportunity in UHP—with curiosity, intention, and confidence.
If I could go back in time and give myself one piece of advice
If I could go back, I would tell myself not to hesitate in exploring opportunities right away. In my first semester, I was cautious—wanting to “settle in” before engaging fully. Looking back, I realize that the UHP is designed for exploration, reflection, and growth from the very beginning. I would remind myself that I don’t need to have everything figured out to take that first step—whether it’s reaching out to a mentor, signing up for a research opportunity, or applying for study abroad. Even small steps open doors to experiences that shape both academic and personal growth. UHP is not about waiting for the “right time,” but about embracing curiosity and trusting that the program will support me along the way.
What I'm most looking forward to this year
This year, I am most looking forward to expanding my horizons through new opportunities in the University Honors Program. I’m excited about applying for the Biomedical RaMP research program, as it would allow me to gain hands-on experience in a lab and explore my interest in the intersection of medicine and research. I’m also looking forward to pursuing study abroad opportunities in France as a part of my major, since traveling and immersing myself in a new culture has always been a dream of mine. Beyond academics, I’m eager to continue building relationships within the UHP community, learning from peers who share the same passion for growth and making a difference. Altogether, I’m looking forward to a year where I can challenge myself, step out of my comfort zone, and take advantage of opportunities that align with my ambitions and values.
