My UHP experience in five words
Discovering and pursuing my interests!
Why UHP is for me
I believe that UHP is right for me because I get to choose how I wish to benefit from the program. Since there are no "required courses" to be a part of UHP, the focus is more on how I can benefit from everything the program has to offer. You have to achieve a certain amount of Honors Experience throughout your time in the program, but all of them are what interests you and things that can only benefit you in the future. From seminars, to study abroad, to self-designed experiences, UHP has only helped me take my passions and use them for good.
Advice for anyone interested in UHP
The Univeristy Honors Program is something that I highly recommend. If you are given the opportunity to be a part of the program, do it! There's minimal extra work and the only required course you have to take is a seminar during your first semester in the program which will help you learn more about the program and how you can benefit by being a part of it. There are so many seminars, study abroad programs, and so much more that you will definitely find something you are interested in and the experience will most definitely be memorable for you in the future!
An honors experience I’ll never forget
An Honors experience that I will never forget is the honors seminar I took during Spring semester of my freshman year. This course was called Children's Media & Social Justice, where I learned about how different social issues and how they're displayed in Children's Media. I was able to express my creativity while learning/spreading awareness about social issues that are not commonly addressed in children's media. This was a very eye-opening and interesting experience for me and I will carry these lessons with me all throughout my career.
What my future holds
UHP has helped me to find my passions and use those passions in a creative way. I have always been interested in Healthcare, but the UHP program encouraged me to explore other interests that I will still apply as a future healthcare professional. I have always had an interest in learning about media and how social issues are shown.
