AEEM2061: Everyday Science

Unraveling the Mysteries of Fluid Flow in Daily Lives

Description

This experiential learning honors seminar is intended to provide students with hands-on experience to understand problems involving liquid or gas flows found in our everyday life. These include shower heads and water sprinklers, sloshing and spilling coffee from a cup, blood and fluid flow in our bodies, and the underlying design concept of football, baseball and golf balls, etc. In this seminar, the honors students will explore and uncover how to apply basic laws of fluid mechanics, use various visualization techniques (using videos, pictures, graphs, etc.), and learn the use of common diagnostic and computer-based simulation techniques to unravel the mysteries of various fluid flows we run into in daily lives.
